Castelbrando: La Fucina
Ready, steady, go! The castle Castelbrando in the province Treviso is already waiting for us with a “birthday week end” packed with relax and culinary delicacies. After a one hour drive (by car from Venice), the castle appears finally in front of us: Castelbrando rises on the hilltop of Cison di Valmarino and literally dominates...

Torcello: Basilica
Torcello, the neighbor island of Burano and a true oasis of tranquility, is certainly worth a visit and recommended to all „cultural“ and „gastronomic“ gourmets. This may surprise you due to its size (or tininess?) but in case you should visit Burano and instead of eating in one of the touristy osterie, you could have...

Marciano Pub: Burger
It has been a while that I wanted to present you the Marciano Pub in Marghera (near the AlVapore): a real “jewel” in the former industrial zone. The owners really did a good job with the renovation of the villa and it´s transformation into a pub: The result is a cozy Irish pub combined with...

Venezia Mestre: Forte Marghera in fiori
The Forte Marghera is – as you’ll already have guessed – an ancient fort (built in the 19th century) that played a significant role in the period of the Risorgimento – means the unification of Italy and therefore in the war against the Habsburg. (Alongside the Venetian coast – from Treporti to Chioggia – you’ll...

Venezia: Fuochi d'artificio
New article: New Year’s Eve 2015/2016 in Venice This year I stared my internet research to figure out what to do on New Year’s Eve a bit earlier and decided to publish the most original ideas here: Cenone di San Silvestro in Barca: New Year’s Eve Dinner on the water Can you imagine something more...

The voucher for a lunch or dinner on the vineyard Ornella Molon, that we received as a gift from a couple on the occasion of their wedding 2 months ago, wanted and had to be used and at the end of November we finally found the time to call the Osteria and book a table...

Il Palco, a tiny bar “hidden” in the heart of Mestre (Venice) citycenter, only a stone’s throw away from Piazza Ferretto. Mestre may, culturally, not have as much to offer as the historical city center in the lagoon, but when it comes to clubbing and eating you’ll be better off in Mestre. Il Palco, that...

I don’t know how you feel about it, but I’m a real „teajunkie“ (my newest is a macha tea ceremony set) and thus, when I came to know about this tea saloon/b&b I just had no other choice: I just had to go there and have a look. The Fujiyama is located in the sestiere...

Signori and signore chitchatting in the piazza. Greengrocers extolling their products. Fresh mazzancolle, schie and other sea creatures finishing in Venetian shopping bags. The Piazza Mercato in Marghera/Venice is filled with life; especially when the first sunrays entice the mainland-Venetians to leave their houses to enjoy the sun with an Aperol Spritz in the Piazza....

The Al Vapore is one of the all time well-visited bars in Mestre (or better, Marghera), even though the location is not one of the most prestigious ones as the bar is „hidden“ at the beginning of the Via Fratelli Bandiera in the industrial zone Marghera that – as night falls – is lined with...

Burano (not Murano; that’s where the glass is from) is known for its laces (“merletti”) that are still hand-made by the women living on this tiny island. In case you think about bringing a lace-fan/umbrella/… back home I recommend you to visit Burano as you have the chance to buy the real merletti there. According...
