… or no Carnival 2021. That is the question.
Museums are closed. Shopping centres are open. Drinking an aperitivo in the evening is allowed, but just while sitting and until 6 pm. Yes, you can have a walk, but not in touristy places.
2020. The year of regulations that change every week.
And what about Carnival?
Well, the organizers hush. On the official website you can find since months the official dates for 2021, from the 30th of January till the 16th of February.
Due to the 2nd Covid-19 wave and a 3rd one (probably) in arrival, we can suppose that the Carnival 2021 is not going to take place, except the organizers would decide to arrange micro-events with mandatory pre-booking to control the stream of visitors. This would revalue the Carnival in my opinion and put the Carnival out of the perspective of a mass event as the last years were characterized by massive streams of visitors and organisational problems.
Well, let’s take pot luck!
Update 22. January 2021:
Live-Stream
From the 6th till the 7th of February at 05.00 pm there will be a live stream from Palazzo Ca‘ Vendramin Calergi on the Grand Canal. Ca‘ Vendramin Calergi is today the seat of the Casino and, btw, also the place where the famous composer Richard Wagner died.
There are no details on the program of the 6th/7th of February; the official websites writes about fun, costumes, music and entertainment.
Where can you see the live stream?
Live on Televenezia (Channel 71) and on Social Media like Instagram,…
Virtual Room
So-called “virtual rooms” will be organized to give you the possibility to participate online in the Carnival with digital events dedicated to kids (workshops, performances, interactive storytelling, contests), teenagers (costumes, tutorials, TikTok, meet&greet with influencers) and seniors (costume contests and enternainment).
Once there will be more details on the events, I will let you know here.
In the meantime (while waiting for further news) I will add some links below concerning the Carnival in Venice and it’s traditional events that might be interesting for you:
I will also add new posts on Canival right here.
