Mirror, mirror on the wall, what shall I do on New Year’s Eve in Venice at all?
As I was doing some internet research to figure out what to do on New Year’s Eve this year (instead of a Bacaro Tour and White Venice in Piazza San Marco), I decided to publish the most original ideas here:
Cenone di San Silvestro in Barca: New Year’s Eve Dinner on the water
Can you imagine something more spectacular than a dinner on board of a ship, cruising in the venetian laguna and enjoying the fireworks at midnight?
I found this agencies/prices for a New Year’s Eve boat tour:
Cityexperience Venice (€280/p.)
Love 2014: Riviera del Brenta.biz (€185/p.)
Love 2014: Michelangelotravel (€135/p.)
Cena in Villa Veneta: feeling like a Doge once in your life?
This New Year’s Eve dinner is not taking place in Venice (the laguna), but in one of the numerous villas (former residences of rich venetian merchants and doges) along the Riviera del Brenta, more precisely: the Hotel Villa Gasparini.
The Hotel Villa Gasparini offers a two nights stay including New Year’s Eve dinner in the Villa Valier from €460/p.
Serra dei Giardini: New Year’s Eve in a greenhouse. Why not?
I recommend this location (after having had a short look at the program) to all those who have a good knowledge of Italian. The price for a New Year’s Eve dinner (organic/oriental) is about €45 and includes live concerts and cabaret. Reservation is necessary. Write to: serradeigiardini@nonsoloverde.org

And on New Year’s Day? The Venetians indulge in a quite „northern“ tradition: New Year’s Swimming. Practically, a bunch of Venetians (old and young) meet up early in the morning (10.30) on January 1st hurling themselves into the floods of the venetian lagoon at the BlueMoon Beach (Lido), accompanied by the sounds of Strauss. Afterwards, the warm up consists in Cotechino with lentils and wine. This event is not only thought for those who recently discovered their Scandinavian roots – yes, in winter it`s getting quite cold here in Venice too – but also for the youngest who will be entertained by a bubble-blowing artist (to distract them from a mum/dad who’s hesitating to hurl herself/himself into the sea?).
