Carlo Goldoni: One of the most important representatives of Italian comedy/theater in the 18th century.
One of his (nine) housings, located between the Frari church and Campo Santa Margherita, is part of the Musei Civici and thus open to the public.
Before entering Goldoni’s house the lady at the cashier will give you an information booklet on Goldoni. The palazzo itself, the atrium and the apartment on the first floor, is very beautiful and well maintained, but in my opinion the ticket is too costly (considering what the museum offers):
A stairway leads from the atrium up to the first floor, where you will find “theme rooms” representing Goldoni’s “Avvocato veneziano” and “La Conversazione” in a second room with, amongst other things, a “biribiss” table (gambling table). A temporary exposition of modern art is held in the tiny entrance hall. You’ll also find paintings of Goldoni in the apartment. It’s not taking you more than 10 minutes to visit the 1st floor.
Like I said, the ticket is too costly in my opinion (I’d be fine with €2/3). Probably I expected too much from a museum dedicated to one of the most outstanding representatives of Italian (Venetian) literature: First editions of his work? Manuscripts? Or personal effects? Unfortunately, I found nothing of that at all.
Ticket: €5, €3.50 (reduced)
Included in the Museum Pass.
