Spring has finally arrived: is there any better way to discover the city than by bike? Some months ago, the city of Venice installed the first automated bike rental service („Ciclostazioni“) to offer residents and visitors an alternative to the bus/tram.
At the Lido you’ll, unfortunately, only find 2 rental points, but in Mestre there are even 16 ciclostazioni and as soon as the city finishes the bike path from Mestre to the Ponte della Libertà you’ll even be able to go to Venice by bike. Keep your fingers crossed!
The first hour is for free.
From the 61st minute to the 120th minute it’s €1.
Starting from the 2nd hour the bike costs €2/hour or part thereof.
You have to be at least 14 years old to use the bike rental service and besides you have to activate this service on your Venezia Unica. Unfortunately, that’s only possible in two offices (of the AVM S.p.a.):
Mestre
P.le Candiani, 34
Opening hours:
Monday-Friday: 08:30 – 13:00
Saturday: 08:30 – 12:30
Tuesday and Friday: 14:30 – 17:00
Hellovenezia
P.le S.Maria Elisabetta
Lido di Venezia
Opening hours:
the whole week (except the 25th of december)8.00 – 20.00
As soon as you activate the bike rental service you’ll have to pay an annual fee of €15 (personal bike lock included) and €5 to charge your Venezia Unica in case you’ll use the bike more than an hour and will have to pay the extra fee.
Here you’ll find a map of bike paths in Mestre.
This site gives you the possibility to see how many bikes are still available at the single bike rental points (on the right side, “Verifica la disponibilità”, select Venice and than the bike rental point): http://bicincitta.tobike.it/
