You would like to discover the Lido or reach Venice from Mestre by bike but you don’t have one or you don’t want to bring yours?
Instead of using your own bike, you can now use a bikesharing system that was inaugurated this year in Venice (well, actually we already had a bike sharing in Venice, but it didn’t work at all because the bikes were never in the stalls, or got stolen, …).
You can leave the bike where you want, or nearly where you want, as the app tells you where you have designated parking spaces in the streets or squares – but you don’t have to reput them in the stalls.
You just need the app „Movi by Mobike“
Attention! Pay attention to where you park (wait for the confirmation in the app), othewise it is possible that the systems makes you pay a fine for „wrong parking“. Also have a look at the reviews in the app store.
Did I already use it?
Actually not, for two simple reasons:
I have a long term ticket for public transportation (1 year), but guess what: it doesn’t include the bikes. I don’t think it is fair to make citizens that already have a long term ticket for public transportation pay for the bike sharing; at least they could offer the first 30 minutes free. Also, and that is the second reason, it is true that it comes in very handy that you can leave the bike where you want, but this also means that once I park the bike and someone else passes by and takes “my” bike (once you park the bike is “free” again), I don’t have a bike anymore to turn back home, go to work, … Sure, you can use the app to track the nearest bike, but the nearest bike could be a few km away.
