Signori and signore chitchatting in the piazza. Greengrocers extolling their products. Fresh mazzancolle, schie and other sea creatures finishing in Venetian shopping bags. The Piazza Mercato in Marghera/Venice is filled with life; especially when the first sunrays entice the mainland-Venetians to leave their houses to enjoy the sun with an Aperol Spritz in the Piazza.
The summerly gelato-obsession has not started yet. Instead you’ll see numerous people with a very famous fried snack walking down the street: The mozzarella in carrozza. Actually it’s nothing else than two slices of bread with stuffing (Well, amongst others mozzarella ;)) and coated with breadcrumbs. Very tasty and available with different stuffings! Today I decided to take the one with mozzarella, mushrooms and tomatoes.
You‘ll get the best mozzarella in carrozza at Bottazzo in Marghera (in the already mentioned Piazza Mercato). Guarantee of quality is the never ending flow of costumers (Venetians), but mainly the snack itself. In a lot of bars the mozzarella in carrozza is pretty greasy, but here the fried snack is golden brown and no trace of greasiness. The right thing for me to recharge before doing the week end shopping or head on to the Vapore for some live music. 😉
