And on New Year’s Day?
The Venetians indulge in a quite „northern“ tradition: New Year’s Swimming. Practically, a bunch of Venetians (old and young) meet up early in the morning (10.30) on January 1st hurling themselves into the floods of the venetian lagoon at the BlueMoon Beach (Lido), accompanied by the sounds of Strauss. Afterwards, the warm up consists in Cotechino with lentils and wine. This event is not only thought for those who recently discovered their Scandinavian roots – yes, in winter it`s getting quite cold here in Venice too – but also for the youngest who will be entertained by artists (to distract them from a mum/dad who’s hesitating to hurl herself/himself into the sea?).
