Have you already heard about Fortuny? No?
Well, Fortuny was born in Spain and moved to Venice in the 30/40ies where he opened his own factory to print his designs on fabrics. After his death his secret technique lived on and is still used to print Fortuny’s designs on the precious fabrics that you will find in a lot of Venetian palazzi (Couches for instance. Maybe you were already sitting on a Fortuny?) and a lot of European royal houses. But not every product that bears the name Fortuny is a real Fortuny. In case you want to be sure to see a real Fortuny you should have a look at the shop/fabric in Giudecca (for free, but by appointment!) and even if you won’t be able to purchase some meters of … for your couch (about €300/m2), you will still have the possibility to take another souvenir home: for instance a diary or an agenda “dressed” in Fortuny for about €50.
